When I started my business in 2003 I didn’t have a sales plan. Instead, I created a financial pro forma that I used as my main road map. While my financial projections provided some guidance it didn’t give enough direction as to what action items I should be taking on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. The sales plan is easy to create and just as easy to follow.

The sections of my sales plan are: Ultimate Outcomes, Sales Strategy, Marketing Strategy, and Projects. Many of my Ultimate Outcomes build from month to month. For example, obtaining X number of people to opt-into my newsletter grows by 100 people per month. If I don’t follow the Marketing Strategy then I won’t be able to build upon prior months.

Today I reviewed my August sales plan. There were a few items on my list that I achieved. Great. But there were a few places where I didn’t reach my goals/plans. The items I didn’t accomplish in September will now become part of my September sales plan. Unfortunately, September is a very busy month. It would make it easier if I was to move some of my September items to October (which I’ve been known to do), but I’m committed to completed all of the items on my September plan.
